Side hustle 2: Mystery Shopping

Mystery shopping is when a company hires someone (a "mystery shopper") to visit their store, restaurant, hotel or other service location undercover and evaluate the customer experience.

As a mystery shopper you could be assesses things such as product availability, employee behavior; cleanliness etc. During or after your visit you report about your findings which business use to improve their services. It tends to be used by retail stores, hotels, restaurants, banks and others.

As a mystery shopper you tend to get paid for your time, a completed tasks and/or reimbursed for any purchases.

One of these companies is Roamler. This company is active in Europe and you can become a mystery shopper by downloading their app and signing up. The tasks are mainly mystery shopping tasks in stores.

I have been using their app to conduct several mystery shopping assignments recently (by the way sometimes you need an invitation from someone who is already a Roamler mystery shopper. In case you require an invitation you can reach out via info@thedutchclassroom.com and will share you an activation code). You can do these assignments when it is convenient for you. Payments for each task varies greatly and generally depends on the time it will take you to carry out the task.

In the coming weeks I will be exploring more mystery shopper opportunities with other companies to be able to compare them and to review which ones I like best and that are worth the time investment. Stay tuned!
